From the Nashville Union and American, Nov. 24, 1868. The University Club plays the Lone Star for the championship only two weeks after completing their defeat of the Arlington Club in a three game series. Notice that this article refers to the “junior championship,” whereas the others just refer to the championship in a general sense. In many cases, base ball clubs fielded both junior and senior squads, and it’s often difficult to distinguish the two in these reports. Perhaps in this case, the junior squad of the University of Nashville represented what is now Montgomery Bell Academy.
“Base Ball. The “University” and “Lone Star” played for the junior championship of the county yesterday afternoon, the game resulting in favor of the former–the score being 31-27.”
