First Tennessee Base Ball Association Convention, 1867

From the Nashville Union and Dispatch, May 3, 1867. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/lccn/sn85038521/1867-05-03/ed-1/seq-3/

The first meeting of the Tennessee Base Ball Association was held in Chattanooga on May 1, 1867. This organization billed itself as representing clubs from the entire state, but was nonetheless dominated by clubs from that city and East Tennessee. Of the ten clubs attending, six were from Chattanooga, two from Knoxville, and one from Tazewell. The only club not from East Tennessee was the Enterprise of Memphis.

By proclamation, the Mountain City Club of Chattanooga was selected champion, but a motion to schedule a statewide tournament to determine the champion on the field did not pass.
