Seymour Base Ball Club

From the Nashville Republican Banner, Sept. 8, 1868

“Organization of a Seymour Base Ball Club. The Seymour Base Ball Club was organized yesterday by the election of the following officers : C. Blunt, President; L. Sigman, Captain; J. Grewer, Secretary; F. Coleman, Treasurer; Z. Kerley, F. Sigman and F. Coleman, Directors.”

Today, Seymour is an unincorporated town in East Tennessee, located in Blount and Sevier counties.

Update (02/03/2015): As my friend Mark Aubrey of http://oldknoxvillebaseball.blogspot.com/ rightly points out, this team was almost certainly not from Seymour, Tennessee. It was most likely a juvenile club from Nashville, and “Z. Kerley” is possibly Zachary Taylor Kerley, who was born in Nashville in 1858. I regret the error.
