From the Nashville Union and Dispatch, Dec. 21, 1866

“The colored young men of the city took the base ball fever some time ago, and organized a club from the choicest material on hand, calling it the Excelsior. Having a high estimate of their skill in the national game, the Excelsiors have challenged every other club in the city, but unfortunately without getting any response.”
